The path from isolated pilots to measurable outcomes

A visual guide to moving from experimentation to useful, governed applications.

Diagram: from isolated AI pilots to measurable outcomes in four steps

Many organisations have run AI pilots. Far fewer have turned them into applications people rely on every day. This briefing sets out the four steps that make the difference.

1. Prioritise

Stop running pilots in parallel without a clear purpose. Rank candidate uses by the value of the decision they improve and how ready the information is. Pick one or two.

2. Build into the workflow

An application that sits outside the daily workflow will not be used. Design it into the way people already work: the meetings, approvals and systems they rely on.

3. Govern

Agree who can see what, which steps need a person’s approval and how every recommendation is recorded. Good oversight is what allows leaders to trust the result.

4. Measure and scale

Measure the result against the goal agreed at the start. When it works, reuse the same connections and safeguards for the next priority, and each new application becomes faster to deliver.
